In the book They Poured Fire, Alepho seems to always have bad luck when it comes to gaining friends and suddenly losing them or getting separated from them. Early in the book he has a friend, Achol and she ends up getting killed in the mayhem when his town is attacked. Later on, Alepho was forced to leave his young friend Peter behind in the town of Palataka because Peter was too young to be recruited as a soldier.
