Day 4: Nicole response to DeAustin.
In the book Lost In Place, Mark has a desire to fit in or be the best he can be. He will go as far as putting himself through pain and torcher himself just so he can be the best at something so the kids at school will accept him. He says on Page 32 “I vowed to go through any physical or mental pain, any injury or indignity, to prove myself in his eyes.” He explains in Chapter 2 that he would starve himself, not use the bathroom for as long as he could hold it and not sleep. Mark was constantly trying to prove himself to his master, father, and the schools bully Michael. Personally I don’t agree with his choice to impress others. As an individual you should think like an individual. Of course I like to impress people, but I don’t go out of my way to, I think it’s supposed to happen naturally. I can relate with Marks determination, but I would never put myself through any physical pain and suffering that would lead to regret later on in life.
Like many people in this world, I have many regrets. Unlike Mark, I would back sass my parents and I was not appreciative of the things they have done for me. As I grew up, I have matured and realized all of things they have done for me. I couldn’t be any more grateful. If I could, I would give them the world to repay them.
There are many struggles and hard decisions you have to make in life; you just have to remember what is really important.
There are many characters in the book Lost In Place . There are a few that really stick out and impact the story and even though they are not main characters they usually bring a good message to the book. Marks first day and the kung fu class he gets criticized and made fun of by the other kids. Based on his looks, he was underestimated. On page 27 a character named Bill was introduced. He stuck up for Mark and told him that if he can keep at this he can kick their ass one day. Another significant character was Michael. He was introduced in Chapter 5 and described as the bully. He came from a rough family but Mark described him as organized and smart. Mark wanted to be on his good side so he did whatever he could to impress him. Mark explains that the reason that Michael doesn’t like him is because he accidently humiliated him in front of the whole class.
I have many people in my life that have made a huge change.
